UST SETS JANUARY 2011 FOR QUADRI HIGHLIGHTS

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) is all geared up for the Quadricentennial celebrations in 2011. While the activities are spread from June 2010 until January 2012, January 2011 will see a concentration of the major highlights of this milestone. The Quadricentennial Parade will be held on January 26 (Wednesday), from Luneta to UST, where each faculty or college shall have a float depicting its history, achievements, and prominent alumni. From January 26 to 28 (Wednesday to Friday), the International Council of the Universities of St. Thomas Aquinas (ICUSTA) will gather presidents and top administrators of its member universities. The conference, with the theme “Catholic Universities’ Role in Building the Church, the Home, and the Nation in a Borderless World”, will be anchored on the philosophy of St. Thomas Aquinas and current issues in education.

January 27 (Thursday) is packed with the Quadricentennial Grand Program, and the Countdown to 400 Years. The Tetraglobal Monument at the Quadricentennial Square will also be unveiled. The Grand Program shall be held at the Football Field and Parade Ground where the countdown and fireworks display will be mounted. Registration for the 40,000 Voices for 2012 will also be opened on this day.

Finally, the Quadricentennial Thanksgiving Mass and Grand Dinner will be held on January 28 (Friday) beginning with a Grand Procession in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary at 5:00 in the afternoon. The Thomasian community and alumni will then congregate at the Plaza Mayor for the Thanksgiving Mass at 6:00 in the evening and the Grand Dinner at 8:00 in the evening. Participants may also still register for the 40,000 Voices for 2012 on this day.

The Quadricentennial Grand Dinner is a ticketed event. An online ticketing system is being finalized to accommodate interested Thomasians.
